SOC Week 6

Well, here it is the final week of SOC Challenge.

The colours chosen for week six are Raspberry, Tangerine and a Pop, Splash or Smudge of Lemon.
They are lovely and very summery colours, so I decided to do my August Art Calendar page.

I began by brayering yellow paint onto A3 card followed by a lighter yellow around the edges.

Stamping was added using paint to stamp with.
The sentence was stamped in raspberry archival ink. The beach huts and bits were stamped on to white paper and coloured using watercolour pencils. then stuck to the page. A black sketch pencil was used to ground the images and smudged in.

I am yet to apply the journaling squares/blocks, usually it takes me some time as I don't' like to cover up all the hard work.

Anyhow,  that's it for me this year, hope you have all enjoyed taking part as much as I have.
Don't forget to pop over to  Twinkle twinkle like a star and check out everyone's entry's.

 Bye for now.

SOC Week 5

Where have the past five weeks gone?
Its all a bit of a blur.

This weeks  SOC colours were a challenge for me yet again,
Red and Royal Blue with a Splash, Smudge or Pop of Light Blue.
Hence why so late  with my post this week, I struggled, is all I can say.

Many weeks ago my brother cut out  a couple of door hangers from MDF for me to alter, so for a change from canvas's I decided to alter one a little.

To be honest with you I had other plans for this one, it started off claret with a coat of crackle glaze and a top coat of chalk paperartsy paints, that was a month or so ago.
Today  it had a few drips of PVA glue  dripped down it followed by a coat of blue, it was more of an electric blue than a royal blue but you have to make use what you have.

This didn't work out to well so I pulled it off taking a few of the other layers with it.

I quite liked the effect and decided to run with it, I stamped a couple of corner stamps on the main area and embossed with a light blue embossing powder.
Next I stamped an image onto white card and cut it out and coloured it using water soluble pencils.

A tiny canvas was made, IN was put on one side and OUT on the other, this was attached with a tiny bulldog clip. Red velvet ribbon, blue sheer fabric and white crinkle ribbon were added to embellish the door hanger.

I am really pleased with the out come, to see more projects from the SOC 4 challenge pop on over to http://twinkletwinklelikeastar.blogspot.co.uk .

I'm slowly working my way through all the great entries hopefully I'll make it before the final set of colours come out.

Finnabair Inspired Canvas

I've had this little number Brewing ever since I saw the original back in May 2014 on
I couldn't afford to go to a workshop, so, I thought I would give it a go myself, this is my Finnabair inspired canvas.

To begin I put two  8x8 canvas boards together, flipped them over and taped them together with patterned tissue tape.

I wanted to create some texture and so using regular PVA glue trailed beads down the length of the  two canvas's. Grunge paste was added at the mainly at the top but also randomly  around the board using a pallet knife I created soft peeks in the paste.

I gave the whole thing a coat of gesso leaving areas where the tissue tape could show through.
Next job was getting a photo of my two cheeky monkey daughters, this proved more difficult than expected. I raided all the embellishments I could find and arranged them on the boards around the photo. It was all stuck down using glue and seal then left to dry over night.

Once dry I painted all the bits and bobs with gesso to neutralise the colours, it took two coats. At this point I thought I'd taken a photo but obviously I hadn't.

Next I put a small amount of Zesty Zing and Mermaid Paperartsy Paints into  spray bottles and added an equal amount of water. The colours were sprayed randomly onto the canvas and let drip down the two boards.

A small amount of stamping in black archival in was added, then a sketching pencil was used to add shading around the drips  of glue and blended/smudged into the surrounding area.

Treasure Gold in White Fire and Silver was added to the edges and raised areas to add a bit of bling.
The two canvas's were separated and there you have it.

Here are a few close ups!

 Hope you like it.

July Art Journal Calendar

A few weeks ago I did a piece that was a colour  prompt challenge of  Coral, Teal and a splash of white. The challenge is over at Twinkle Twinkle like a star blog, it is called Summer of Color (Colour) 4. It is the first time I have taken part but it is so much fun especially having a look at everyone's different arty projects.

Anyhow, I struggled at first and then thought of my July art journal.

Perfect I thought.

Here is a copy of my original  post.

I didn't have Coral so I had to mix the colour which actually didn't turn out to bad.
The colour was brayered onto a an A3 piece of card and lines were added with the edge of an old plastic credit card, (Yes, they have an after life). LOL.
Still Stumped with what to create and not wanting to bore people with yet another canvas, I made up my mind to do a background for my July Art Calendar Journal Page.
So next up I stencilled black paint through an assortment of masks.

Followed by white, slightly off from the black image to create a sort of shadow effect, the leaves were left black as I felt it need a bit of well, black to lift it. (Hope this was OK).

Next came a few shades of teal which appear really pale on the photos, this was applied directly on the top of the white to give a more realistic or pure colour.

White paint was used on a script stamp and stamped through the masks to add detail to the flowers.
A few dandelion heads and small circles were stamped around the page too.

I haven't yet put the journaling squares in place as I like to appreciate the background first.

So enough of that here is the finished Journal page.

Hope you like it, don't forget to take a look at all of the other super pages on Kate Cranes blog, thekathrynwheel.blogspot.com.
